The Juvenile Detention Center is a pre-adjudication secure facility that endeavors to provide a safe, caring and secure environment for the male and female juveniles between the ages of 10-17 who are detained pending court proceedings or residential placement.
The Juvenile Detention Facility operates year-long around the clock. It has a population capacity of 62 juveniles. The Facility and the officers employed must maintain order and daily operations of the facility and are responsible for the care, custody and control of the juveniles in our facility in accordance with standards set by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department. We are responsible for the admissions and release of juveniles referred to us by law enforcement agencies. We are responsible to control juvenile who may be dangerous to themselves or others. We must prevent disturbances, assaults and escapes by supervision activities and educational assignments of the juveniles. We have the responsibility to protect the public, protect fellow officers from harm and protect juveniles from themselves and others at all times. An officer must be a disciplinarian and enforce the rules and correct when rules are violated. Officers also must assist in transportation responsibilities that may include transfers to other facilities, medical appointments, court appearances and other required locations. Officers also must take full concern for the care, health and safety of the facility and the individuals detained.
Programming in Detention is designed and structured to provide for the safe and secure confinement of the adolescents while also addressing their physical, emotional and educational needs. Educational services and structured recreational activities are provided by the El Paso Independent School Districts.
