EL PASO TEXAS- The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will hosted a Basic Peace Officer Graduation (BPO) and Promotion Ceremony on May 24, 2013 at 1:00 PM at El Dorado High School Theatre located at 12401 Edgemere Blvd., El Paso, TX 79938. Sheriff Richard D.Wiles swore in (18) new Deputy Sheriffs from the BPO 12-1 Region VIII Academy and promoted 11 staff members consisting of Civilian & Detention Personnel.

EL PASO TEXAS- The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a 2013 one week summer Youth Academy. The program is open to residents in El Paso County who seek insight about Law Enforcement. The youth Law Enforcement Academy is set to begin June 10th - 14th, Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 12:30 PM Topics presented will be from various sections within the Sheriff’s Office and may include instruction from other local agencies/institutions.

So, if you are between 13 and 18 years of age, come see for yourself what Law Enforcement is about!

All participants will be asked to provide their own transportation to and from the training academy. Food is not provided but youth are encouraged to bring snacks for consumption during breaks at designated areas.

ELIGIBILITY:

Must be between 13 & 18 years of age to apply
If a person has reached the age of 18 and has graduated from high school they would not be eligible for the youth academy.

CLASSES will be held at the El Paso Sheriff’s Office Region VIII Training Academy located at:

EL PASO TEXAS- In recognition of the contributions correctional officers have made to society, today, El Paso County Sheriff’s Detention Officers, from both the El Paso County Detention Facility located at 601 E. Overland (Downtown) and the El Paso County Jail Annex located at 12501 Montana Ave., also known as "the Leo Samaniego Complex, gathered together at the County Courthouse/Commissioner’s Court in honor of being recognized for the challenging and dangerous tasks they endure on day-to-day operations of both facilities; ensuring the care, custody, control and well-being of over 2,000 inmates are met. EL PASO TEXAS- On April 18^th, 2013 the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the Texas Rangers and Ardovinos Wine & Gift will conduct a combined training, hostage scenario exercise.

The exercise will consist of a mock hostage situation occurring at the Ardovinos Wine & Gift located at 1879 N. Zaragoza, El Paso, Texas. The exercise will commence at approximately 8:00 AM and conclude at approximately 10:30 AM. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactical (SWAT) team and the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) along with the Texas Rangers will respond activating their emergency lights to the situation. The Texas Department of Public Safety will also have their Air Unit Helicopter respond to the scene for air support.

This may cause some alarm to the public and generate 9-1-1 service calls within the city/county. Again this is a mock exercise. All media is welcome.
