EL PASO TEXAS- The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will be joining forces with the Texas Department of Transportation and other local Law Enforcement agencies for the
Annual 2013 Click-It or Ticket (CIOT) Campaign by utilizing a TXDOT grant for
SEATBELT ENFORCEMENT. The purpose of the enforcement is to bring public awareness to drivers and passengers driving on Texas roads to prevent serious injury or death in crash. Seatbelts save lives. Texas Law requires drivers and all passengers in a vehicle to be secured by a safety belt. Officers will be vigilant throughout El Paso County enforcing seatbelt laws and any other traffic violations observed during this period and the peak during holiday traffic.
SEATBELT FACTS:
- Wearing a seatbelt reduces the risk of serious injury in a crash by 45%, for pick-ups it reduces the risk of injury by 60%
- In 2012, there were 5,062 motor vehicle traffic crashes in Texas in which unrestrained occupants sustained fatal or serious injures.
- Teens are the least likely to buckle up to include passengers in genera, pick-up occupants, and motorists in medium sized cities & rural areas (Texas A & M Transportation Institute’s 2012 Survey).

Car crashes are the number one killer of children 1 to 12 years old in the United States.
 | Children younger than 8 years old must ride in a child safety seat or booster seat unless they are taller than 4 feet 9 inches. | |
