JUVENILE DISCHARGES FIREARM INJURES ANOTHER

Yesterday late evening, on 08-03-12, at approximately 10:10 PM Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an accidental shooting at the 18900 block of George Strait in Tornillo, TX. A preliminary investigation revealed that a (14) year old female was shot by (15) year old male after a possible mishandling of a .22 caliber rifle between the two. The juvenile victim was transported by Life Ambulance to a local area hospital. During the investigation it was discovered the rifle was brought onto the property by another juvenile (15) who apparently took the rifle from his parent’s safe without his parent’s knowledge. The group of juveniles were in the backyard when the victim sustained a gunshot wound to her chest. All parties were advised accordingly and juveniles were released to responsible adults. The weapon was recovered by Sheriff’s Deputies and the juvenile was charged with the offense of Aggravated Assault. The victim is reported to be in stable condition.
