The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Section in coordination with Patrol Deputies conducted an Impaired Driving Mobilization (IDM) Enforcement Wave throughout El Paso County Texas during the period of June 30, 2012 thru July 8, 2012.
During the wave enforcement a total of (52) hours of manpower were utilized to focus on drivers under the influence. Officers concentrated on high risk areas where alcohol-related crashes were most frequent. The goal was to take preventive measures and reduce the number of fatal or serious injury collisions. The IDM Enforcement Wave yielded the following results:

Also, from June 30th through July 8th, 2012, Deputies on patrol yielded a total of 21 DWI arrests out in El Paso County. The 21 arrests are separate statistics and are not included as part of the IDM Enforcement Wave.

About every 20 minutes in Texas, someone is hurt or killed in a crash involving alcohol. Texas has the most drunk driving deaths year after year. Fourth of July weekend has been named the deadliest day and/or weekend for drunk driving on nation’s roadways. In the past 25 years, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, half of the accidents that occur on this holiday weekend involve alcohol.
