EL PASO COUNTY TEXAS- On 07-07-2012 at approximately 8:30 PM, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 16600 block of Montana Ave., El Paso, TX, in reference to a motor vehicle accident (head on collision). Shortly after Sheriff’s Office Special Traffic Investigators (STI) were summoned to the scene due to the severity of the accident and injuries sustained of both drivers. The Investigation revealed the driver of a brown in color 2004 KIA Spectra was traveling westbound on the inner lane of eastbound traffic, for unknown reason(s), when it collided head on with the driver of a re  d 1990 Chevrolet S-10 pick-up truck that was traveling eastbound on the inner lane of traffic at the 16600 block of Montana Ave.

The point of impact caused the pick-up truck to roll on its left side and face east in the dirt median. The KIA spun, went right, then came to rest on part of the north portion of the unimproved shoulder. The driver of the pick-up truck, a 19 year old male, was pinned inside the truck as a result of the collision. First Responders extracted the driver using the jaws-of life. The driver was then flown to a local area hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the KIA, a 33 year old male, was transported to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The driver of the KIA was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol as Sheriff’s Deputies detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his breath. It is unknown if the drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time.  The investigation continues with charges pending.
