REMINDER-EL PASO COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE ENFORCES COUNTYWIDE BAN OF ALL FIREWORKS

EL PASO COUNTY, TEXAS-On May 21, 2012, El Paso County Commissioner’s Court banned fireworks pursuant to Texas Local Government Code 352.051(a)(2) and on June 13, 2012, Commissioner’s Court, in a 3-2 vote, approved the extending of the County Judges disaster declaration which was to ban the sale, use and possession of fireworks up until July 5, 2012, 7:00 AM as requested by El Paso County Judge Veronica Escobar on June 11, 2012. The extension of the fireworks ban was granted by Texas Governor Rick Perry and based upon the review and recommendations by the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM).

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will enforce the ban of all fireworks in all the unincorporated areas of El Paso County.  The sale, possession, or discharge of fireworks in the unincorporated areas of El Paso County is a Class “C” misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $500.  This violation would include those who purchase fireworks legally in some other jurisdiction but travel into and/or store fireworks in the unincorporated areas of the county.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Stations will have drop off sites for anyone wishing to dispose of fireworks or pyrotechnics at the following locations:
