SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES ARREST “NANNY” FOR ABANDONING OR ENDANGERING A CHILD

NEWS RELEASE

EL PASO TEXAS- On 06-20-12 at approximately 5:00 AM, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 7000 block of First St., Canutillo, Tx,  in reference to an Abandoning or Endangering a Child call.  A neighbor told Deputies that one of the children (8 yoa) was seen walking around by herself at approximately 4:30 AM by a neighbor and the child appeared scared. The neighbor/reporter started to knock on doors asking if it was known where the child lived. It was later discovered that two other children, ages 3 and 4, to include the 8 year old found, were all left alone in an apartment for more than an hour. 

Further investigation revealed a “Nanny” was hired by the children’s parents to care for their two children while they were out of town but were left alone while in the “Nanny’s”care sometime during the night.  Sheriff’s Deputies were in search of the “Nanny” for questioning. The “Nanny” was located a couple of hours later after Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to another 911 call in reference to a Child Custody dispute. When the Deputy arrived to the location, the “Nanny” was identified as being the one who left the children unattended on First St.  The “Nanny”/Offender was identified as Susana Soto and was unable to provide a reasonable explanation for leaving the children unattended.

The Offender was placed under arrest for ABANDONING OR ENDANGERING A CHILD 3-COUNTS and subsequently booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. Child Protective Services was also notified. Sheriff’s Deputies made arrangements with the  parents of the children and released the children to a responsible party. One of the three children is the Offender’s daughter.
