EL PASO TEXAS- The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the El Paso Police Department hosted their First Police/Sheriff Spanish Citizen’s Academy for Spanish Speakers this year.  From April 10, 2012 to June 12, 2012, a total of 13 Citizens voluntarily signed up to receive education about how law enforcement agencies operate.

The Police/Sheriff Citizens Academy is a community policing initiative aimed at informing Citizens on how law enforcement agencies function. It also gives Citizens a general overview of various units within the two entities. Citizens had the opportunity to participate in the ride-a-along program, listen to various presentations and watch demonstrations from various sections within each agency to include specialized units such as S.W.A.T. Citizens also had the opportunity to tour one of the two Sheriff’s Office County Detention Facilities.

On Tuesday, June 12, 2012 the Citizens Academy will graduate and receive a certificate of completion for having completed 40 hours of education with the Police/Sheriff Spanish Citizen Academy.
