EL PASO,TX- On Thursday, 10-13-2011 at approximately 3:00 PM, Deputies of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Strike Team, received information in reference to a stolen all-terrain vehicle being sold via the internet (CRAIG’S LIST EL PASO). An off-duty Deputy, stated that while surfing the website on 10-12-11, an ad for a 2008 Kawasaki KFX 700 ATV was featured for sale in the lower valley area of El Paso County Texas.
The off-duty Deputy became suspicious after having met with the seller who could not provide a title for the vehicle being advertised for sale, only a bill of sale. The off-duty Deputy obtained the vehicle’s information where it was then verified through the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. The off-duty Deputy learned the vehicle was a stolen vehicle reported through the El Paso Police Department.
On 10-13-11, undercover Deputies made contact with the subject/seller at the 500 block of Muralla Way, El Paso, TX. The vehicle, a green/black, 2008 Kawasaki, was also at the same location and shown to the undercover Deputies. Deputies moved in and placed the subject under arrest for Theft over/ $1,500-under/$20,000 and was booked into the El Paso County Jail Annex with a bond of $2,500. The value of the all-terrain vehicle was estimated to be approximately $6000, however, was being sold for $3000 on the internet.
The subject was identified as IVAN MAGALLANES who claimed he offered to trade some rims valued at $2000 with some interested individuals who responded to his own rim advertisement on Craig’s list, May of this year. The individuals offered to trade the said “Quad” (2008 Kawasaki, valued at $3000) for the rims, in which he agreed. MAGALLANES also claimed he did not know the all-terrain vehicle was stolen.
