MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT RESULTS IN DRIVER’S 3RD DWI OFFENSE

DEPUTY BADGE WHTEL PASO, TX- On Saturday, 10-01-2011 at approximately 5:45 PM Deputies were dispatched to Canutillo Ave. and 3rd St. in Canutillo, TX, in reference to a Motor Vehicle Accident involving a possible DWI Driver. Upon arrival, Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and saw a Maroon 2006 Ford Taurus and Silver 2008 Chevy Silverado with damage. Deputies made contact with the Driver of the Ford Taurus who detected a strong odor of an alcohol beverage emitting from his breath and person.

Further investigation revealed the Driver of the Ford Taurus was seen traveling northbound at the 6900 block of 3rd St. when it collided with the witness’s vehicle/Chevy Silverado who was traveling southbound on 3rd St. The Driver of the Ford Taurus continued driving when it lost control of the vehicle and collided into an additional vehicle, a Black 1999 Isuzu, that was parked and unoccupied on 3rd St.  

The Driver was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to the Vinton Substation where he provided a breath specimen reading of .34. The Driver was identified as Ruben Garica (47) of Canutillo, TX. Life Ambulance was summoned to the substation due to Mr. Ruben Garcia’s medical condition and was transported to a local area hospital for treatment. Upon release from the hospital, the Driver/Offender was then booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with $5000 bond. No other injuries were reported on scene. A criminal history revealed Mr. Ruben Garcia had two previous DWI convictions.
