POLICE SEEK INFORMATION ABOUT PARK VANDALISM
Crime Stoppers of El Paso is assisting the El Paso Police Department in locating subjects who cut the cables at a city park in order to steal copper wiring, causing cancellation of all night games at the park and making this the,
Crime Stoppers “Crime of the Week.”
Sometime between the hours of 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 28th, 2011, and 10:00 A.M.
the next morning, somebody destroyed the transformer box at the Westside Sports Complex, 201 Isela Rubalcava, in order to cut out the copper cables inside. The vandalism caused $10,000 in damages; however, the crime did much more damage to the families who use the park.
As a result of the vandalism, the City’s Parks and Recreation Department had to cancel all night games for youth soccer and football until further notice. The one night of vandalism will end up affecting more than 5,000 families who participate in the youth sports program. Nothing is known about the person who committed this crime except that it was an experienced electrician.
