EL PASO, TX- On 08-23-2011, Tuesday evening at approximately 5:37 pm Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Horizon Blvd and Gateway Blvd West Blvd. in reference to an MVA involving a motorcycle. Deputies arrived to the 14000 block of Gateway Blvd West to find a Hispanic male subject on the ground and unresponsive being treated by Life Ambulance and Socorro First Responders.
The operator/male victim was transported to Del Sol Medical Center with severe head trauma. Special Traffic Investigators were summoned to the scene as well as Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Technicians. According to witnesses, the operator/male victim was traveling westbound on Gateway Blvd West at a high rate of speed weaving in and out of traffic. when the male/victim lost control of the motorcycle. The operator/male victim, drove onto the right side of the roadway and onto the dirt, throwing the male/victim off the seat an approximate 250 feet.
Speeding and riding experience appear to be the only factors of the crash. The male/victim was identified as 23 year old Ivan Tovar. Mr. Tovar was not wearing a helmet. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
UPDATE:
Further investigation revealed the motorcycle was a black and grey, 2007 Yamaha Motorcycle bearing TX 4BY-609. Although the motorcycle was bearing the wrong license plates at the time of the crash, the motorcycle was NOT REPORTED STOLEN .
