El PASO, TX- On Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at 9:30 am Sheriff Richard D. Wiles held a press conference at 12501 Montana Ave, El Paso,TX 79938, Building “F” announcing the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office first incinerator.
The cost of the incinerator was approximately $160,000.00 and was obtained through asset forfeiture funds at no cost to the county. It will be primarily used for the disposal of narcotics but can be used for other items and waste as well.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office provided a demonstration by incinerating 700 lbs of marijuana on site and displayed what the results appeared like after the burning.
The incinerator will be available to all Law Enforcement Agencies by appointment, however, the cost for the use of the incinerator is yet to be determined. The incinerator has been approved by the Environmental Protection Agency and has met Federal and State regulations. The proposal of having an incinerator on site came from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Bureau/Border Crime Initiative who felt the investment of an incinerator and the disposing of narcotics on site would be efficient and cost effective, saving tax payers money.
The building on site (Building “F”) is equipped with an office, shower and restrooms for Officers personal use, during their wait.
